For this second edition of deCYPher lab, the participants headed to Ghent for three days of immersive hands-on workshops, bringing together the art residencies of the deCYPher and Bioindustry4.0 projects.

The lab invited the 4 selected artists in residency alongside with 9 guest artists into scientific institutions and facilities that are part of deCYPher project to learn more about the project and processes, and explore how artistic and multidisciplinary approaches can play a role in moulding these.

It was organised with deCYPher’s partners from Bioart Society, Centre for Synthetic Biology at Universiteit Gent, ML6, Department of Bioscience at Wageningen University and Biofaction.

This exciting programme included hands-on workshops and lectures rich with insightful interactions and discussions. The participants used Ghent University’s lab to learn transforming bacteria, manipulating DNA and analysing plant metabolites. They also got into the process of machine learning at ML6.

The lab participants were invited at KU Leuven for an evening lecture by Rachel Armstrong and the Regenerative Architecture team to get introduced to living architecture. Her team worked on the European founded project Mi-Hy, on the SPIKA installation at Triennale Milano in May 2025.

The deCYPher consortium was very happy to receive and share these moments with the participants and look forward for the residency artists to start their creative journey.
